RICHMOND, VA, Nov. 26 — Despite the chilly, drizzly weather, another large crowd turned out today in Richmond for the latest in a series of major local marches in support of Palestine. After gathering in Monroe Park, the protesters took to Broad Street and marched about a mile and a half to the Virginia State Capitol, where they heard several rousing speeches.
Called by the Richmond chapter of American Muslims for Palestine, this protest seemed to have attracted more supporters from outside the Muslim and Arab-American communities, an indication of how opposition to the genocidal carpet bombing of the Palestinian Gaza Strip by the Israeli military is drawing more people into the movement demanding a ceasefire and an end to U.S. aid to Israel.
Protests have also been taking place in several other Virginia cities, including in Norfolk, where the aircraft carriers now stationed in the eastern Mediterranean are homeported. Those actions have been sponsored by the Hampton Roads Coalition for Palestine.
