Our country is facing a historic crisis. We are rapidly being driven into a total dictatorship that will only serve the wealthy few while the rest of us lose all our rights and sink further into poverty.

Protests and court cases are important and we should keep them up, but by themselves they won’t be enough. Not this time. We need to hit Donald Trump, Elon Musk and all the other billionaires who back them where it really matters: their money.

If all of us stop work for just one day, it would cost the billionaires billions in profits. And if we don’t buy anything for that one day, that would cost them billions more. And if we hold massive protests on that day, it would demonstrate our resolve to keep going until we win.

If one day doesn’t work, we go out for two days. Then a week. Then a month. Then as long as it takes. This will take a lot of organizing, but we can do it. And the alternative is to accept the loss of all liberties and any hope for a decent future for ourselves and our children.

Our demands will have to be worked out democratically, but at the very minimum we should call for the immediate cancellation of all executive orders the Trump administration has issued since taking office.

We call on the unions, civil rights and religious organizations, student groups and all pro-people movements to come together and organize a General Strike: No work, no school, no buying anything. Make use of the power we know we already have if we all just join together.

When we reach an impressive number of organizations signing on to this resolution, it will be presented to unions across Virginia, asking them to promote the call for a General Strike to all national unions. And we’re sharing this Call with activists in other states to promote a national grassroots upsurge of support.
