We are a free, all-volunteer newspaper. The cost of printing is paid for by member dues, donations, and the sale of advertisements. We appreciate your support.

We are not a nonprofit. Contributions to our organization are not tax-deductible.

Subscriptions

You can also purchase subscriptions through the above methods. The paper is free to pick up and subscriptions are free to Virginia prisoners: for everyone else, an annual subscription is $12 for individuals and $35 for institutions. This covers the costs of mailing.

If you are purchasing a subscription by Paypal, please select “The Virginia Defender” from the drop-down list, then and include the word “Sub,” either your name or the name of the institution you are subscribing for, and your shipping address in the “note” field.

If you are purchasing a subscription by mail, please include a note with that information and a check or money order.
