Join the Antiwar Committee of the Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality for a Richmond Teach-In on War
October 22, 5pm, Monroe Park (620 W. Main St., Richmond, VA): the Antiwar Committee will hold a Teach-In, featuring presentations on Ukraine, Palestine, Africa, and Cuba.
At 6pm: We will march to the nearby intersection of Broad & Belvidere to hold signs demanding money for jobs, peace and justice, not war!
Inflation is going through the roof. People can’t afford to pay for groceries, gas, rent or health care. But instead of helping us, the government’s “defense” budget is approaching $800 billion a year. It’s sending tens of billions to fund the war in Ukraine; $3.7 billion a year to Israel; and billions each year for its Africa Command. Meanwhile, it’s tightening its now-61-year-old blockade against Cuba, a country of 11 million people that isn’t threatening anyone.
And none of this is being talked about in the Congressional races or the build-up to the 2024 presidential election. Worse, it’s not talked about by “progressive” organizations, who leave it to the right-wing to oppose wars.
Join us at the teach-in. If you like what you hear, march with us to Broad and Belvidere.
This event is part of a national week of antiwar protests initiated by the United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC).
Street parking is available. The closest city-operated parking facility is the Grace & 2nd Street Garage (107 N. 2nd St.), eight blocks from the park.
